How to recover orphaned bin objects after crash

When MC crashes between an object creation and the auto (or manual) save of the containing bin, the object is orphaned (doesn't appear in the bin after restart). I know how to recover media files like mixdowns etc. but is there a way to recover an customized effect that was stored in a bin just before the crash ? Is the orphaned effect laying somewhere "stranded" in a folder where I could recover it ?

You can't regain an effect preset You created if that preset hasn't been saved to a bin. You could recover a rendered effect, there is no way that I know of to associate it back to the relevant sequence though. The mediafile is not orphaned anyway, it belongs to the project, but it does not belong to the sequence, and will lie on the media drive like any other unused precompute, eg old renders of subsequently modified effects. You can fiddle with the 'Set bin display' options both in the media tool and in the target bin, and drag and drop stuff, don't know if this will take where You want to go; what are You trying to accomplish?

Re: How to recover orphaned bin objects after crash

    Thanks for these comments.

I assume an effect preset is an object that exists only in memory until the containing bin is saved (unlike media files and renders).

So an app crash means: saved effect preset is lost without tracks on disk if the crash occurs before the bin was saved...I just wanted a confirmation.

I was a bit tired of the number of unexpected crashes I had that day...not sure why...this ageing system was perhaps a bit short of RAM, so I cranked up from 20 to 24 GB and will see if I continue getting these crashes. In the meantime I'll remember to pres CTRL-S immediately after I save a complex custom effect preset Wink

Re: How to recover orphaned bin objects after crash

On a similar theme I have been getting a lot of crashes on 8.9.3 and although I can find say the last recorded voice over file in my MXF folders how do I get it back in a bin when that bin wasnt saved before a crash?  Finding it in media tool is easy but it wont drag it back into the bin.  I had to put it through Sorenson to unwrap it to a mov and import!

try dragging the mdb file of that MXF folder into a temporary bin: when you see the media file you want, drag it from the temporary bin to the intended bin.

Re: How to recover orphaned bin objects after crash

Here I can easily drag & drop a .mdb (NOT MXF !) file from an Avid MediaFiles folder to an empty bin and that populates it with the media files in that folder...
