"Make Folder" directly inside a folder

I often end up with several layers of folders - for instance I can have a folder called "Rushes 14th July" and have a "Camera A" and "Camera B" folders inside it, each containing an audio bin and a video bin.

As the project grows bigger, it's frustrating to create a new folder, then have to find it, then drag it to where it belongs from the root of the project. Could we have a shortcut to create a folder wherever we want, say from a right click on an existing folder?

I know I can do it from the Finder too, but it beats the whole logic of Media Composer where you do everything from within the app.

    This annoys me too!

Also not being able to empty the trash by right clicking the Trash bin doesn't make any sense.

Yeah, this part of the interface is sooooo 90's, when Avid was a Mac only software.

Don't forget Macs had no right-click on the mouse then. When right-click made it to the Mac, clearly Avid had no idea what to do with it and just put a "What's this" menu because if felt better than having nothing at all!

Or of course they could have decided to implement something that wasn't likely to be seen as mission critical so that older Mac users didn't feel frozen out of a function.  However expanding the functionality of the right mouse button is long overdue in my opinion.

Re: "Make Folder" directly inside a folder

    +1 from me

On the topic of folders and bins, it's way too easy to accidentally pull a bin out of a folder and into another one thereby 'losing' it. This is especially the case when MC become very sluggish and grabbing bins becomes 'sticky' in the project window. Once lost, finding the dam thing and putting it back in the folder is came form is a real faff.

Another super easy wish for me it to have the ability to rename a bin by typing directly in the bin's title bar. Having to locate the bin in the project window to rename it there can be tedious when a project is very large. The only way is to search for it by bin name in the project window or bin list. Maybe a useful half-way fix would be a 'find bin in bin list' function. Something like, make the bin active and 'find' where it is in the project folder structure.

Re: "Make Folder" directly inside a folder

You will want to check out the new Media Composer 23.3.

Right-Click to Add a Folder Within a Folder
In previous versions of Media Composer, folders needed to be created at the root level of the Bin
Container before dragging them into a subfolder. Now, simply right-click to add a folder directly
    within a folder.

Hi all. The original poster's feature ^ ^ of creating a folder within a folder is now implemented in Media Composer.

Agreed this is a long time pain point.  We're investigating this one.

We'll look into this one as well, however there's a serious danger to making the bin renaming process too easy.  For the same reason that Adobe has intentionally never given "Flatten Layers" its own keyboard shortcut (because it's too desctructive of a process), the last thing we'd want to do is make it too easy for someone to rename a bin, close it, and then realize they renamed the wrong bin. Now they don't know which bin they renamed, nor where it just disappeard to.

But I agree it's a pain point worth investigating... just thoughtfully.

    Great ideas in that post.

MC has a little "Select" Box which floats open requiring an answer to the question: Which open bin do you want to put that in? I want that box to get re-imagined, expanded into a more full featured mappable, dockable tool, with customizable font size, etc. A dynamic box that shows ALL tabbed or floating bins in use, listed top to bottom in an order that matches the left to right order of tabbed bins in the separate bin containers involved. Then I want the Active bin container clearly shown in Bold or since it's 2023, a Color. And it would indeed be great if this new tool would allow renaming of Bins which then appear in the Project Tool. Also ability to un-Tab as well as re-shuffle the order. Or move from one bin container to another. Mouse and keyboard driven. The new Super Select Bin tool- because there seems to be no way to sort the Project window, to show only the in-use Bins...and show which Bin container those bins are in, or if some of them are floating.
