I am openining up bins that are 60 to 80 mb. They are finished shows that I am using to repackage into a new one hour show. I get a lot of lag and it takes forever to save so I was hopeing to get some tips and tricks that are software based that I can use to speed up my system. I have adjusted the playlenghth in the console and I am editing in half rez (yellow/green) icon in timeline. Is there anything else I can do to enhance performance?
Thanks,
Alberto
These are the specs of my unit...
AMC - 6.5.4
Mac OSX 10.7.5
Chip = 2 x 2.66 GHZ - 6-Core Intel Xeon
Memory = 24 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
I keep my sequence in a bin on its own that way the auto saves are quick
@apmende: if you haven't finished these, some more questions:
1. How fast are your media drives? That'll affect performance too. Do a speed test with Blackmagic Disk Speed Test or AJA System Test and report the read and write speeds. (Both free.)
2. Resolution and codec of your media? (e.g. 1080p, DNxHD 220)

Ask me about Mimiq and Mimiq Pro!
The resolution is 10:1 MXF
I am on a shared system and it's a fiber based network. It's my hardware so I was looking a software fix.
+1 on simplying what's in your bin. Yes, it's a small annoyance using MC that it takes so *** long to open/save bins bigger than an Atari 8-bit game from the '80s.
Best,
J
I've also found with shared storage that the number of bins in a project affects performance. In ongoing projects I was finding it took up to a minute or more to open a project or auto-save, even if only one bin was open.
A new project with only a few bins fixed it.
And as mentioned already, simplifying what is in your bins as well.
I've also had experience in the past where the backup setting greatly affected the slowness of the project for all shared users when shared storage was involved. Also the trash bin. That is greatly overlooked in many cases of project management but can greatly slow down your speeds as it still is part of the projects auto save regime but like many others have said greatly reduce the size of your main sequence bin and you should see significant improvement. As well as working with as few bins open as possible. I work with lots who like to have the opposite and all it does is tax the systems resources if you aren't using them.
