Water damage - Complete ISIS 5500 failure

Last week we had some heavy rains which resulted in a roof leak in our building. Directly over our ISIS 5500 system, of course. I pulled out the unit, removed the power supplies and looked around. I found standing water in the chassis. I left the unit opened up and the power supplies out over the weekend in an attempt to dry it out. When attempting to power it on today, it very briefly powers up for about 1-2 seconds before shutting down.

We are in the process of getting a replacement unit now. I am hoping that the drives themselves are okay since I did not find any evidence of water in the front of the unit where the drives are housed.

My question is: If the data and system drives are ok, is there a way we can save all of the exisiting footage on the system? i.e. get it up and running somehow so we can transfer all of the data to a new system?

    Thank you in advance...

If you transfer at least one of the system drive and the data drive set to another chassis you should be able to recover everything. This assumes the drives and data are not damaged.

If the system drive was damaged beyond boot, you can at least try to recover the metadata. This will allow you to migrate the RAID set to another chassis without the original system drive.

The data RAID set can have drive failures but it all depends which one. Normally you can have 1 data and the spare drive fail without losing any media. I think you can have up to 3 (not including the hot spare) assuming each drive is part of a different LUN. Don't quote on me on that. This is purely speculation based on that ISIS 5xxx RAID set is a 3 RAID5 + 1 hot spare config.

At the very least you need the metadata from your System Director in order to recover any usable data.

That is a huge help, thanks so much Dom! I'm going to start looking into this right away.
