AMA Link Open takes 30 seconds

Returned to MC after not using it for a while, having few issues:

When I select AMA Link, it takes a 30 seconds+ for the tab to open so you can then select files to link?

    Is this normal?

Im linking to an external drive in a Nexstar Cradle via USB3

If you try again immediately, does the dialog open faster?

Re: AMA Link Open takes 30 seconds

Thanks Steve, yes it does it all the time. While it works, its frustrating waiting for box to come up. Once select the file, the link is very quick.

Ive done a fresh install of OS and MC, but still the same.

I assume, most experience instant opening of the AMA Box?

    Regards

Re: AMA Link Open takes 30 seconds

It's instant unless my external drive has gone to sleep and then it takes quite some time for the drive to spin-up and to link the clip. That's why I asked if you try to link another clip from the same location immediately following the first does it link faster or do you still wait for 30 seconds?

I find it instant on my laptop, so clearly its this desktop. Even going back to my old Quadro Card its the same.

    Hi,

Had the exact same issue. Avid now stores AMA metadata locally on your PC. Documents>Avid Media Composer>AMA Management>AMA Metadata folders. You can delete everything in the last folder, this should speed your AMA linking up, as well as imporving general speed on the Avid

On W7 here the full path is C:\Users\Public\Documents\Avid Media Composer\AMA Management\AMA Metadata Folders. Which would lead me to ask whether I should also delete the Managed AMA Media Folders.xml in the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Avid Media Composer\AMA Management folder.

I am starting to think Avid is in serious need of a specialist in optimal ways of efficiently handling cache files. Fix the App Manager by manually deleting the cache. Fix AMA  by manually deleting the cache....    FWIW with minimal use of AMA here my AMA Metadata Folder had nearly 1000 folders in it, each with 2 database files. Needing to know about Manual management of this (and the App Managers cache) seems to be way above and beyond what a regular MC user needs to know IMO. Sad
Out of interest I deleted the entire contents of my AMA Metadata Folder. Opened MC and then a Project with only 4 AV AMA clips (all in the same source folder and 1 audio AMA clip from a different source folder and ended up with 5 new folders, 2 with .pmr databases in the AMA Metadata Folder.

yeah, management folders on system drives suck balls.

    that's adobe like BS.

i wanna be able to handle & wipe dis this like render files, put it under media creation.

put related files in Avid MediaFiles Folder. waveform cache too while you're at it.

currently i usually disable ama management altogther, cos i don't need it
