So I thought I'd give Newblue Titler Pro 2 a crack on my latest project and it seems to work fairly well and I like how easy you can animate things compared to Marquee which I find reliable but slow and painful.
Anyway, I need to take the project to the client for some final changes, so transferred everything to a drive for my Macbook.
When I opened it up a couple of the titles seemed ok, but I opened one up to edit I had to rechoose the font (Mac font naming doesn't always match the PC). And when I saved the title Titler seemed to take ages and appeared to go through all the other titles and re-render them... and now all except two have been reset and now say "Enter Text".
All my text and transition effects are gone.
It wouldn't be so weird except that a couple of the titles are still there.
Any thoughts on this? Anything I should do differently when transferring form Mac to PC? If I'd know I was going to do that when I started I probably would have tested rather than expecting new software to just work but...
cheers
Campbell
I hope NewBlue will respond to this. It's a really good question and I'd be interested to know if they have considered this workflow.

FWIW I´ve gone from Mac to PC and also the other way with TP4
Tomas
That's worth a lot, Tomas ;-)
Any idea if this is new to TP 4 (since TP 2)?
The issue may not specifically be with moving the project, although that could be part of it.
I wasted a couple of hours yesterday trying to get the titles to work and had all sorts of weird buggy issues.
Sometimes I'd edit a title, quit TP2 back to Avid and the title wouldn't show up on screen. If I re-opened the title effect, made a small edit and closed again, hopefully it would reappear.
Other times the title would show up fine when unrendered, but when I rendered the effect it would vanish from the image. Still on the timeline, just not showing up anymore.
I tried doing video mixdowns and sometimes the title would vanish. A couple of times it showed up for 2 frames in a 5 second mixdown. Fortunately that was over a still image so I just copied those 2 frames over the whole still and ditched my animation.
It was all a bit erratic and confusing and not pleasant when trying to finalise the project.
Ok, some more information. I'm running MC8.5 on a Macbook with El Capitan.
The media was AMA/Linked - I know this can be problematic so I'll do further experiments with consolidating. But I had rendered all the effects underneath the TP2 effect. And I even tried doing a video mixdown of the footage under the title but still had the same problem.
I'll try some more experiments this week on a different project and see if I can reproduce anything, or at least work out a fix/workaround.
It's great that TP4 seems to work for people, but TP2 is what Avid is giving me with my current license. I'm interested to know if anyone else has had any similar problems.
Hi Campbell,
Sorry to hear about the trouble you had changing from PC to Mac and that I didn't see this thread earlier.

If your cache is enabled for all titles, it's normal that TP would recache all your titles on exit. This happens because the cache isn't "carried over" to the Mac.

Obvously this shouldn't be happening. It sounds like a bug in our earlier versions of TP for Avide which have since been addressed. If you're still having trouble, can you try this update:

Thanks for sending the link, I'll let you know how the update works when I have a chance to test it.
