Re: Windows 10 not approved yet

I finished up with W10 on my main machine on an one year old 250 Gb SSD and my data and work in progress on an  one year old 120Gb  SSD.. With an fast quad processor W7 ran beautifully with the SSD’s happy days, W10 ran like an hairy goat so I wiped W10 and tried to re-load W7. “Windows cannot be installed on this disc the selected disc  has an MBR partition table on EFI systems Windows can only be installed on GPT drives ..   In plain English. If you upgrade to W10 and then decide to simply drop back to W7 it’s no go... at least on SSD drives.. check out MBR, EFI Systems and GPT discs ..

It would seem the whole idea(Microsoft) is to encourage up-grading to W10 (got-cha) ... I know Marianna and others said don't do it yet. that's the best advice I didn't heed, it feels like Vista all over again, all sorts of compatability problems  and getting back to W7/MC.8.4 means a complete re-install from scratch especially the MBR/EFI/ issue unless of course you know how to get around the incompatability issues.. i'm not stating any of this is right or wrong only expressing my own experience, I am not an IT expert but there are issues Windows,MC.xx.QuickTime,Titler Pro and probably much more and when I finally get it all together again the best news is Windows Seven will be around until 2016 ...!! (I'm getting too old for all the technological inactitudes)....the solution is follow Marianna first time next time..!!

Well that was 12 days ago and I had no success getting Titler Pro re-installed on my W10/MC8.4 system but somehow I wasn't able to get that message across to Titler Blue help ,no re-installing Windows 7 so no longer an issue, end of story. ..

    update 3:

i had another try tonight, starting with a new fresh clone ssd of my win7pro sp1.

deactivated mc 8.4, uninstalled mc and application manager.

disabled super anti spyware and initiated the upgrade to win 10.

    everything went well.

i then installed the app manager, then mc from within that program.

quick run through of most apps seems o.k.

qt 7.7.7 was installed as well, and runing nvidia 353.62.

Re: Windows 10 not approved yet

Ok so I had a weird disaster with Windows earlier today where the whole font subsystem crapped its pants - my taskbar looked like this and my fonts folder was looking a bit empty.

A system restore fixed it - then it broke again. Initially I thought it was a dodgy Windows update, but I think it might actually be Avid FX and its associated Visual C++ redistributable, which I reinstalled after the system restore and caused it all to break once more (after a restart).

So if you don't need Avid FX, don't install it, just in case that's what's causing it.

Re: Windows 10 not approved yet

Hello Marianna , first I did read your well informed warning not to load Windows 10, it was too easy to download - Just press the Microsoft welcome to W10 button July 29 -too easy..

It has been a nightmare getting rid of it, I now have Windows 7 /ser pack one re installed and now have to start all over again installing MC.8.4 Squeeze 10,etc etc...

re:- Titler Pro we played ping-pong for a week, I kept saying my original Titler Pro Key won't work now with W10 and they kept coming back "it should try again" eventually I said forget it, or something like that, (depending on the time of night) once I get up and running again hopefully it will load/activate again, it's a secret don't tell anyone, I'm thinking of upgrading to version 4  there's a discount offer looks pretty attractive maybe.

So now I have to de-activate/ re-activate Avid re install everything and start again just because curiosity got the better of me and that friendly looking Microsoft "Welcome download now"didn't help..

I ran the BETA'S and figured the release would be fixed, it isn't, in my humble opinion ..

The moral of this sad saga is listen to Marianna and save yourself all the hassle ...

    Keith R....

Bummer and sorry you had this happen... been there myself which is why I am such a stickler for posting that kind of notice. Let me know if you need any help with the deactivation etc.... sometimes it can be finicky.

    Have a good weekend....

Re: Windows 10 not approved yet

    (confirming)

Thank you Marianna, back on Windows 7,  hopefully Titler Pro /Quick Time etc will now be back to normal and  happy days again...

It was an interesting experiment all that remains hopefully is how to switch off that  Microsoft pop up inviting W10 to download...!

I will wait for Avid Certification , as others have pointed out  MC.8.4 seemed to run snappier under W10 if and when the other issues are fixed maybe another story..

(ps)  We'll wait on your next post on the subject next time ..!!

Re: Windows 10 not approved yet

    Hi Keith,

You can switch off the Windows 10 reminder quite easily.  Control Panel>Programs and Features>updates  Remove KB file labeled KB 3035583.  Restart the computer, and when you check for updates, and it comes up, right click and choose "Hide Update".  You can always look at the hidden updates at a later time when you are ready to update  and install it to get to your windows 10 update.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Windows 10 not approved yet

I wonder if your latest update (initially "pushed" on 12 Aug) got corrupted.

My Avid FX (64-bit) v6.4.0.372 seems to be working just fine, both from the desktop and with a quick application of an effect in an MC test project.  Is it possible that a manual re-run of Windows Update will fix things up?
