    Should I be Updating?

    Hello,

When attempting to update my Media Composer Software through the Application Manager, I received a message which stated the "update was not allowed" because I need an active support plan, but when I went to my account, there were downloads available, one of which is version 8.3.  I originally got a license for version 8, and I don't want to install it and end up with problems I can't solve on my own, so I wonder if I should install the update or if I may experience difficulty.  Also, my application manager allowed my to download squeeze lite, but it says it only comes with subcriptions.  It doesn't mention perpetual licenses.  Is it or is it not included with my license for MC 8?  I look forward to helpful responses!

    Gratefully,

    Jusitn T

    Re: Should I be Updating?

    Avid's website states:

Get the greatest cost efficiency over an extended period of use when you purchase and own Media Composer outright, which includes:

    • Media Composer perpetual license
    • NewBlue Titler Pro 1 and a 30-day trial of iZotope Insight
    • One year of Standard Support, including all updates and upgrades; renewable for $299/year
    • Optional: Purchase Media Composer | Symphony Option
    • Media Composer | Production Pack to get access to the same tools included with a subscription

    http://www.avid.com/US/products/media-composer/licensing

    and:

    "Media Composer | Production Pack

Give your Media Composer projects the professional look and sound quality they need to make the biggest impact. The Media Composer | Production Pack includes three complementary software tools—NewBlue Titler Pro 2, iZotope Insight, and Sorenson Squeeze—that enable you to create stunning 2D and 3D video titles, analyze and troubleshoot audio mixes, and optimize video for web and disc play. A version of the Production Pack is included with Media Composer subscriptions; the full version is available to purchase for Media Composer owners."

Following the purchase link one finds:

"The Media Composer | Production Pack includes three complementary software tools—NewBlue Titler Pro 2, iZotope Insight, and Sorenson Squeeze 10 Standard."

N.B. The link labeled, "Learn more about Squeeze" points to http://www.sorensonmedia.com/squeeze/squeeze-9/ Presumably someone forget to edit the link when Avid & Sorenson agreed to include Squeeze 10 instead of 9.

Your Standard Support is still valid if you bought MC8 less then 1 year ago or renewed support. It includes "all updates and upgrades."

N.B. Not every Avid product can be co-installed on the same computer and work properly. E.g. MC & Pro Tools. See Co-Install notes for Avid Media Composer 6.5.3 (or higher) and Pro Tools 11 (or higher) for more details.

    Hope this helps,
