This has been a problem for as long as I have used Media Composer - since version 5. It is a destructive and well known bug.
Can you be more specific? And is it a feature request or a bug fix you want to post about?
Hi, Job.
I would call it a a bug fix, but I guess it's really a feature request too, in the sense that I want Avid to make sure its redos do not dissapear. I've actually told Avid about this over the phone, but that was back during version 7 - I'm currently working with 8.4.
Very often, when I hit undo a couple times, I am unable to redo the undos. I am defintiely not alone in this, as several others on the forums have confirmed the same happening to them. I cannot figure out what causes this loss. Sometimes I can redo, but often I can't. I'd say it happens at least once every session and causes lost work. I'm very careful not to undo too many times, knowing I may not be able to get back to where I was. This has happened to me both on PC and Mac, on different systems, ever since Media Composer 5.
Bumping. Finishing with Magic Bullet Looks and everytime I hit Undo, no Redo.
OS X - 10.10.2

Ask me about Mimiq and Mimiq Pro!
Yep, very annoying this is. Sometimes I want to look at a stretch of video before and after a few cuts have been made, but having to actually make the cuts again after a few ctrl+Zs when the Redo function doesn't work slows me down.
If what you're doing changes your undo history in any way you will lose the ability to redo. For example, if you undo to a certain point and make a minor change at that point, even if you revert to the status quo prior to that minor change, you will no longer be able to redo. That minor change can be as simple as disabling a track to preview something then re-enabling that track.
It's expected, predictable behaviour, and is in no way a bug.

Thanks, jwrl. However, this is not what causes it. You can undo several times and do absolutely nothing and then try to redo and it will not work. Avid has been like this for at least 3 years. I'd like to add that this behaviour is not consistent, so you can't always recreate it, but it happens often enough to be a major problem.
I've seen the same thing. Certain actions, when undone, clear the redo stack. Sometimes hard to reproduce, sometimes not.
I understand that 'doing' anything will clear redos. But undoing something shouldn't have that effect.
Would enabling the Setting: Composer/Edit/"Undo only Record Events" increase or decrease the likelihood of getting these "un-available Redos"?
