    Media Composer 8.4 upgrade

I have been running Media Composer since the Liquid to Avid bundle days and now MC 8.4

My only problem is that at "Enthusiast Level" it's lonely here in the South Side of Brisbane, there are no Avid users in any of the Video Clubs or Groups and with no faults to find in MC, Sorenson 10 Desktop or new Blue Titler there's no one to swap stories with and no one to tell what a good thing it is- you know what i mean..

More to the point, I am comfortable with MC.xxx and if there are any enthusiast level users here I would love to make contact it would seem that MC is basically "Professional Level" only, in ten years I  have met Professional Editors only and not a single "Enthusiast" we had an active group with Liquid and that was long ago,  interesting that at Club and Group level there is no interest they all seem to think Avid is too complex or too expensive or both maybe..

I'm well past the Tec College stage so have no knowledge of that scene, in any case havn't posted for a long time so just an opportunity to say thanks to the Forum folk who have been so helpfull in the past and that tonight at least it has become a bit of a drag and Digitally at least all is OK .

If there are any like minded folk here I would like to catch up hearing about Premier and such at meetings is a bit of a drag. at anything less than Studio Level , maybe it is simply a case of Avid is not targeting this space anymore..? I'm beginning to feel like the Lone Ranger ...

    Regards

    Keith Ryan

PS (only the digitally lonely would understand )Smile

I certainly think Avid is targeting this space (enthusiast) but it sounds like they are somewhat unsuccessful in the groups you frequent. I know the specifics of the tool can be important but I'm surprised that the groups don't focus more on technique than on specific product features. Good luck with your search - you'd think there might be an Avid Users Group in your area.

Hi Keith Same thing here in Orange County CA which is just south of LA. Ten years ago this November We hosted a Liquid Immersion event at a large retirement community where I live.Thirty people attended from all over the country and Canada,we only had room for thirty, what a wonderful learning experience and I am still in touch with some of them. Another Liquid event was held on the East coast the next year. Sadly to say any Avid events are held in Hollyweird or Burbank which are 50 miles in distance but can be an eternity in time because of traffic and as far as I know there are no active user groups in the area. Also digitally lonley, if it wasn't for the Forum I'd be gone.

    Re: Media Composer 8.4 upgrade

Hello BarkinMad and others interested in "enthusiasts".

I am in no way suggesting Avid and the Forum give less attaention to the enthusiast level, in fact I have had remarkably good assistance in the past and no doubt that will continue, for instance- in the GeForce GTX.xxx Codec issue with MC 7.xxx I had a long Team Viewer session run by Customer Success and could not speak more highly of the level of support also the Forum support we got over the Graphic Card issue.Again I have no doubt Avid is doing its thing for the enthusiast level people.this is just one example ...

What I am saying is here in Brisbane at least, I am not awere of any current or past activity in the "consumer" space, there are Avid distributors in Australia at the Professional and Television/Broadcast  level of course, but understandably they are not suited to hobbyist or enthusiast activity at least in my experience..etc

So in conclusion it would seem that middle or enthusiast/hobbyist level has been left to three or four other Editing Products that can be found in any Video Club or Meeting.

So in the middle of the night with everything working fine (MC 8.4, Sorenson 10 Desktop , New Blue Titler Pro 2, and so forth I created the "Digitally Lonely" that is no other users in the same space and no group or meeting to go to .  so the Group has one member, and in passing a big hello to any one else with the same malady...Smile

Maybe I should register the "Digitally Lonely"

(The only qualification would be strange people who sit at their Work Station late into the night and call themselves "Enthusiasts" )

    Regards

Ps (pls remove this, it doesn't suit the seriousness, and only happens occasionally in the dark of night...

Well - I understand and I hope Avid takes posts like this seriously since the market for 'enthusiasts' is likely larger than that of professionals ;-)

    Re: Media Composer 8.4 upgrade

    hello Again..

    Goes further than that:-

Media Composer Basic Guide,Advanced Effects Guide,AVID Installation Guide,Smart Sound,Sonic Fire,Sorenson Squeeze,BCC AVX, AVID DVD BY Sonic,Avid Boris FX,Smart Sound Core Sessions,Media Composer 4.0.5 etc etc.. all that for $700.00 and you owned it plus a free upgrade to MC.5.xxx

AVID seriously extended a hand up to "the Avid" for the enthusiast or intermediate level user...

MEDIA COMPOSER today is probably over $5000.00 and that is subscription only ...

Since the advent of the current financial modelling, that level of promotion and marketing will never be seen again, and the beautifull purple box has gone and is no doubt  long forgotten...

AVID seriously extended a hand up to "the Avid" for the enthusiast or intermediate level user...Sad

(ps) Is there any possibility the financial modelling for the future will ever consider this middle level again,

How about recognizing the middle level again and adjusting the "subscription" accordingly for next year

otherwise we probably will be gone , .!!

    Regards

No, it's $1299 if you want to own it with the possibility of upgrading every year, or $49.99 for a monthly subscription.

    Hello Camascato .

if one is to purchase Media Composer 8.4, Sorenson Desktop 10 and New Blue Titler Pro full versions today

what will the actual cost be...?

If one is to take annual subscription for the same bundle next financial year

what will the actual cost be cost be..?

I  am simply saying there was a very attractive offer for intermediate/enthusiast once and it would be good if such an offer was considered today to attract/hold that level that is dominated by others programs sure I understand you don't agree that's fine ...

    regards as always...

At their current prices today it'd cost $2,097. MC is $1,299, Squeeze Desktop 10 standard is $549, and Titler Pro 4 is on sale for $249.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with your point, I just think it's misleading to exaggerate prices in an attempt to make it.

Again I am simply saying there was an very attractive offer at intermediate/enthusiast level once and it would be good if such an  approach was considered today given that  other companies have taken up the middle ground and you would know that if you cared to look at the club scene .

Regards pricing you have gone for the least possible denominator and I'm happy to discuss that other than on the forum

No need to be snarky.  I realize there are hobbyist filmmakers, but without knowing how big the hobbyist market is, and how much money Avid would stand to gain or lose by offering a discounted price for Media Composer and bundling it with a couple of apps from other manufacturers, it's impossible to say whether that'd be a good idea or not.

    Keith R:

I don't understand.  I picked the price for the standard edition of each of the applications you mentioned.  Even if you pick the most expensive option for Squeeze and New Blue Titler the total only comes to $2,396, which is still less than half of the $5,000 you seemed to think it would be.
