AMA Linking C300 footage in MC 8.3.1

    Hi all,

Just bought a C300 (mark 1) and AMA refuses to work - it won't link to the clips. I've been round and round looking at things online, installing all the plugins etc, but no joy. Incredibly frustrating. Does anyone have any insight into what I should be doing (although I'm doing nothing different to how I normally AMA link).

    Thanks,

    Paul

Does it give you an error, or just nothing appears in the bin when you link?

I know in the past, that any C300 footage shot at true 24p would not AMA into Avid, due to a limitation in the plugin.

Yes, it says 'Unable to link to any clips at: [file location]

The footage is 25p, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Ok, problem solved after much digging and experimenting. It was all to do with file structure.

The file structure straight from the C300 wasn't working with AMA link. I had to create a new folder called CARD and then put the CONTENTS folder from the card inside there. No idea why this works, but it did. They probably need to sort this out as it should work with the file structure which comes straight off the C300.

Anyway, hope that helps someone else down the line.

That's standard procedure with practically every "camera root folder" I can think of.  Copy the entire card folder into a folder on your hard drive, one for each card.  Link to THAT folder.

That way, instead of "CONTENTS," you can have a good descriptive, sortable name like 20150625-CAM1-BROLL-01, put the CONTENTS folder into it, and link to that descriptively-named folder.  That's what I do with AVCHD's "PRIVATE" folder, XDCamEX's "BPAV" folder, CanonXF's "CONTENTS" folder, and others.

I WOULD like to see the software give a little "hint" at what kind of structure it's looking for when a link fails, though.

Thanks, yes, that logical makes sense. And agree with you - it would be good if the error message which came up pointed you roughly in the right direction when it doesn't work! AMA not linking doesn't tell you a great deal.
