As you can see from my specks:

Running a standard Avid approved system.
Just got some new Footage shot on a Canon 70D, 1080p 29.97fps.
When I try to link via AMA and play it, it stutters badly and the red line appears on the timeline.
Can this footage not be played back via AMA or am I doing something wrong?
I don't think I need any special codecs.
I would like to edit some of it before I transcode.
Thanks for any advice.
Tex
are you linking straight from the card, or from a fast hd?
the time you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted time...
Transerfered to an interinal HD running SATA6Gb/s.
Has anyone and any luck or experience with any of the cameras in the EOS line.
Guess I will just have to transcode all.
I deal with Canon footage all the time and have never been successful AMA'ing their H264 codec smoothly. I always have to Transcode before I use it. Luckily we're able to get a bunch of that footage simultaneously recorded on a Ninja and get it saved as ProRes or DnX. Much larger file size, but much easier to work with.
Hi, Johnny.
I've never had a problem playing back 70D media via AMA-linking.
We work entirely online for our projects, to eliminate the transcode. Only difference in our footage is we do 25fps.
Our system specs are:
intel i7 3930k
nvidia quadro k4200
32gb ddr corsair ram (4x8gb DIMMs)
128gb Samsung 840 sata3 ssd
4*2tb western digital black hdds
asus p9x79 pro

WOW. Could the difference in RAM be the problem???
Hmmm, I don't think so... We've only just gone from 16-32gb, (also a far worse graphics card) and it wasn't a problem.
I just remembered last night that I've run 70D AMA footage on two completely different Mac suites (we're on PC), with varying system specs, and also never had a problem.
Sorry I can't offer any other help, but I guess it's good to know that it is possible to have it working.
Good luck :)
