I've been using the AMA file export function to export an AS-11 mxf file for broadcast. I'd like to be able to re-import these files, partly to check them and partly if we want to re-use sections of the program in the future. But when I try to AMA-link to the file I get an error message that Avid is unable to auto-detect the AMA Plugin.
I'm on MC 7.0.4. According to the knowledge database the MXF OP1Atom AMA plugin is automatically installed. When I use the console to list my AMA plugins I can't see it.
So I try installing the AS-11 plugin patch from this page:http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/compatibility/AS-11-AMA-Plugin-Update-for-Media-Composer-7-0-4-1-and-Media-Composer-8-2
But that doesn't work (although it comes up in the AMA plugins list)
Any ideas? I'd really like to be able to bring in the files that Avid has exported.
cheers
Campbell
Campbell,
Are you on Mac or PC?
Can you confirm that you're running 7.0.4 and not 7.0.4.2 or 7.0.4.1?
In the 'Open' dialog, when you're doing AMA Link, do you see 'MXF (*.MXF)' in the 'Files of type' drop-down menu? I assume not, because that would indicate presence of MXF AMA plug-in and you don't see it listed by the console command. Whether the MXF AMA plug-in is missing is important because AS-11 plug-in uses it to link to AS-11 MXF files.
Thanks,
Alexey
Hi Alexey, thanks for helping.
I've got several systems, running both Mac and PC. I'm on 7.0.4 on both.
In the open dialogue I can see 'MXF (*.mxf)' and 'AS-11(*.mxf)' listed in the AMA plugins. However choosing either of these, or using auto-detect, the import still fails. This occurs on both Mac and PC.
I've also tried to AMA-link the files in MC8.3 on a Mac and this failed too.
The files themselves seem fine, I can view them in VLC and I've sent them to our broadcaster and they've been checked and accepted. But I'd really like to be able to bring the files back into Avid as they represent a second (backup) master file for me which can be used in the future. Also, it's just weird that it looks like the files should be able to be imported and then they don't work!
thanks
Hi Campbell, early last year with SD projects I AMA exported 17 episode to AS11 from MC 7.0.3 and MC 7.0.4. They all imported back into a new project here for testing. (after discovering the need to set my import to all files not auto)
Sorry about the delay.I should mention that autodetect doesn't work well for MXF files, including AS-11, becuase of large number of subtle variations between different MXF flavors and AMA plug-ins having hard time effectively distingushing one flavor from another. In fact, recent releases of MC do not allow to use autodetect for MXF. But you should be able to link to a valid AS-11 file either by using the MXF or the AS-11 AMA plug-ins.Could you please check the Media Composer console for any warnings/errors generated during linking to the AS-11 file? (Go to the Tools menu and pick Console, hit the Clear button at the bottom-left of the console to clear it, then perform the AMA link operation and check the console for messages.)It would help a lot if we could get our hands on a file that fails to link. I understand that it is not likely that you can share your master. Next best thing would be a file that is smaller and/or has less sensetive content. Any chance you have such a sample?
Hi Alexey
I upgraded to 7.0.4.3 patch and now the issue has disappeared. I can AMA-link to the mxf files that I output without problems. I have to set the AMA plugin to MXF but it works fine then.
