For the last few days I've been receiving a warning from Microsoft Security Essentials about a file in the Avid installation folder. The message is as follows:
Items detected on your PC require further analysis. By Sending the files listed below, you can help Microsoft analysts determine whether these items are malicious. File path: C:\Program Files\Avid\Avid Media Composer\stonedog.dll
Question 1: Is this even a genuine message from Microsoft? The capitalisation and punctuation seem odd.Question 2: Is anyone else seeing this?Question 3: Should I be concerned?
I'm only seeing it on my W7 system. It doesn't appear on W8.1.
Final question: What do I do to fix this?
I'm running MSE on W7 and have not received this message about my MC 8.3 installation.

I am not seeing this either..
Using MC 22.12. Win 22H2 Avid FX6.4, Vegas Pro 20/ DVD Architect 6pro, DVDit6.4proHD, CCE Basic, TmpGe Express4, TmpGe Authoring Works 4, DVDLab-Studio. Sony EX-1R, Canon XH-A1, GL2, GL1, Canon EOS 60D
John,
I am not seeing this either, and I'm using MSE as well.

In such case, I would try to find the original dll file in the install folders. Replace the suspected one.
Or maybe even re-install MC after a full uninstall.
I don't think that a repair will load all files fresh.
mse as well - nada.
the time you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted time...
Thanks, guys. I'd already made up my mind to do what you suggest, Sef. Fortunately I have two other systems to copy the file from. After a deep malware scan and fix, of course.
I'd recommend Malwarebytes.org. I use that concurrently with MSE. Very good removing deeply embedded foul stuff.
I'll second the recommendation to Malware Bytes. Excellent program.
Thanks, guys.

Will do. It won't be before Monday though.

running premium here, pretty good.
well worth the 20 bucks/year.
Running Free, only scans when you tell it to, so no load when not in use.
