Avid just will not work for me

I downlaoded Media Composer 8.3 and it works fine on my husbands computer but not on mine. It starts fine and I see my bins and what not but the Composer window is frozen. I can click any footage and it'll play the sound but not the video (even if you put it on the time line. Something else I noticed is that if I move a window over the composer window then it drag lags and leaves a repeated picture of the window being dragged all over the composer window.

    My specs are:
    Geforce GTX 770M
    Quad Core i7-4700MQ 2.4GHZ
    16GB RAM

It's a toshiba qosmio laptop. It runs all of adobe CC perfectly but Avid just won't work no matter what I do.

    Suggestions?

First step would be to check the readme (here) to verify that your computer and its version environment is qualified to run MC8.3.  Check the exact version of the OS you are running, check the version of Quicktime, the video card driver, etc... If you find everything is in order, then report back and we'll be happy to troubleshoot further.

My Quicktime is up to date according to that link, my video driver is beyond up to date according to that link, I am running windows 8.1
Everything seems fine on my side.

Video not playing in the composer window, but it will play the audio and the buttons are still usable, I can still make subclips and marker and in and out points I just can't see anything.

my video driver is beyond up to date

The symptoms you're describing could be caused by this.  Something is interfering with the screen redrawing.  Try rolling back to the Avid-approved driver even though your video card is not a quadro.  Keep a copy of your current driver to reinstall if it doesn't make any difference.

Some i7 Chips also carry onboard GPU functions. You'd want to make sure on-chip video is turned off in BIOS.

Which nVidia driver are you using? Usually the GeForce driver should come close to the Quadro version

If the Quadro Driver is 340.84,

GeForce Version: 340.52 would be a good place to start.

The Quadro drivers rarely lineup at the point level with the Geforce ones.

FIW, I find that the 344.75 GeForce driver works really well with my GTX 970.
