Memory upgrade for HP Z800 running Media Composer 8.3.0

    Hi All,

I just upgraded to Media Composer 8.3.0  I am currently running an HP Z800 with 12GB of memory (6 - 2GB DDR3 133 ECC memory cards).  What options do I have for upgrading memory to 32GB that Avid will access.  I can only find info on the Z800 going to 12GB.  Can I populate the rest of the slots with 6 more 2GB DDR3s?  Do I remove that memory and add 6 - 8GB mem cards?  I can't find any info on this in the forum or from Avid.  There is info on later HP machines but not the Z800.  I believe it's likely some of you are running a Z800 with Avid 8.3.0 and more than 12GB?  If I can increase memory what slots do I use?  Thanks for any help.

    Thanks,

    Arnie

We followed the HP advice on adding RAM to ensure optimum system performance. Avid seems to work fine with that.

    I think we have a 24GB Z800 running V8.3 fine.

    Hi Pat,

Would you be able to tell me what size mem chips you are using and in what slots they are in.

    Thanks,

    Arnie

    Hi Again,

I got a reply from Avid that says more memory is useful but did not answer my question.  In the Avid Z800 configuration guidlines is only addresses 12GB.  I currently have 2GB DIMMs in slots DIMM1, 2 & 3 for both CPU0 & CPU1 as Avid recommends.  What slotts can I use with version 8.3.0 on the Z800 to go to more memory and what size DIMMs.  Can I populate the other 6 slots with the same 2GB DIMMs I am currently using to get 24GB?.  Should I pull all those DIMMs and put in 6 - 8GB DIMMs in the same 6 slots?  Will that work and will Avid access the memory?

As Pat mentioned if you follow the HP guidelines with a nod back to the Avid specs you can see what's best.

Check the HP site for config options and guidleines.

    Hi All,

Thanks.  Memory is on order.  Pulling 2GB DIMMs & putting in 12 - 4GB DIMMs.
