Hi,Sorry for my English but I'm French.Tonight (18h10 local BREST Brittany) , I open Avid application manager and I see that there is a update to 8.3.I download and install all without problem. On the way to 4K?I'll test as soon as I find a clip native 4K. I also want to do the update for NewBlue titler PRO 1.
I take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas, New Year and happiness for 2015.
Friends from France
Best regards.
Thanks, installed it and so far works fine, I have a bin full of 4K files, format set to 4K DCI Full and Proxy time set to 1/16. cut a quick time line in proxy mode and exported out 4K.

I cut a quick timeline in proxy mode and exported out a 4K ouicktime video but you can also export out a 2K or HD 1080 time line. Nice thing is during my initial test I didn't transcode the AMA files during the entire edit process. My computer is old and slow so I expected I'd have to transcode the files to DNxHR in order to work with them, but I didn't have to although with my slow computer things did hang momentarly when trying to scroll the timeline, so for now on large projects I will most likely transcode to DNxHR using one of Avids Proxy raster dimensions; Source, 1/4 or 1/16.
One other thing I noticed, with older Avid versions I would always have to transcode my timeline before exporting, with this quick test I reset the proxy setting in my format tab to off and was able to set my export format to 4K. I checked the output file when Avid was done and it was 4K.
scocklin - how did you export 4K (what export settings)?

Project Format set to 4K DCI 4096 x 2160, I turned Proxy off, In Export Settings there is a drop down menu with multiple settings, at the bottom there is 4096x2160. With the Proxy on in the format setting you don't get the 4K selection in the drop down menu.

I tested it with 4K XAVC and RED RAW. XAVC Intra QFHD (UHD) drops some frames in green/green with UHD project format. It is fine at green/yellow.
RED is definitely tougher. I have to set it to yellow/yellow andproxy set to 1/16 for decent playback.
Also note that it stutters more if you do not have matching frame size (UHD vs 4K).
Playback and render used about 500%-700% of my MBP 2012 4 core. So core (both physical and logical) usage is very good.

The System Requirements for Feature Performance on this build do dictate a pretty (ok, very) robust machine for UHD/4K.
Helo,
I have aproblem with 4k workflow.
I want test 4k avid transcoded file with Davinci Resolve. To prepare nice "flat" quicktime from Red camera, I set:
- project to 4K DCI Full 4096x2160. Import by ama Red 5k 24p, set source settings (RedColor3,RedlogFilm, Full range to video), in frameflex properly set aspect ratio. Now have nice flat image - redy to transcode to DNxHR HQX.
After transcode i have problem with exporting to qt same as source(DNxHR HQX). QT SAS is grey out and only custom codecs are available. ??
Also tried link davinci to mxf(DNxHR HQX) created by avid but it does not work. Probably davinci need to know what is DNxHR HQX ;). Need some time ...
Thanks avid for:
Color Info Future
Color LUT from timeline - this is great but I think opacity slider to controll that effect will be very useful.
Thenks,
Maciek
From what I understand, QT DNxHR is not available at this time. In addition, I don't think Resolve understands DNxHR media yet but I presume they are working on it because they have historically had a very good relationship with Avid.
Cheers
We need it quickly ;) to have possibility to encode 4k file equal to Proress.
For PC user who work with Avid, Davinci, VFX app, .... this will be big step forward :)
Thanks,
quick question
Will you be able to monitor 4k timelines even if you have an old breakout box that doesnt offer 4k and a client monitor that it is 1080p? I know it wont truly be 4k but will i get imagre on my client monitor at all?
Not expecting accurancy - just some sort of picture preview that a client can see.
Yes. Essentially the same as other software that works in 4K - it downconverts for playback. I was playing back a UHD timeline in 1080p via a AJA Kona LHi today just fine (though the media in it was 1080p).

Appreciate the response - havent had a reason to work in 4k native (I always transcode 4k to dnx36 and relink later) yet regardless of the software so just making sure this is possible if it does come up eventually.
Thanks again!
