Just bought a Matrox 02 Mini Max, rep said it would interface with Media Composer 7 with exporting QuickTime H264. Now I can not see it as a codec choice at all. Media Composer see it as a IO box only but not for encoding. I am missing something or was I told a half truth...

I was under the impression that the MAX part only works with MC's QT Exports on the Mac. I think the MAX option on Windows only supports Adobe Media Encoder. On the Mac it also works with Apple Compressor and Telestream Episode. AFAIK.

I was sold that same bill of goods a couple of years ago. I opted for the "Max" version because I was told Matrox would soon be adding PC support. Obviously, it still hasn't happened.
I have a fantastic editing assistant. He stays by my side when I edit...doesn't talk too much...and thinks I'm a genius! Check him out here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQVkYaaPO6g

Actually also with QT Pro on the Mac side and I guess that this is the reason to why it is native Avid supported on the Mac side, Matrox didn´t plan to do it for Avid initially if I understand it correct, it just happened to be that way that Avid is using the Quicktime exporter.
About Apple and the Quicktime exporter on the Windows side we know that it is on it´s way out so Adobe might be the best current bet for Max encodes, if you have AE and Photoshop you should also have AME and maybe a QT ref to AME would be a way to go.
