IMO if the Avid negotiators were actually serious about the issue the statement would have read something more like this .... We are not pursuing an agreement with Nexidia since they have sold their company. We have however already made contact with the new owners and will start negotiations with them very soon! We have also made evaluating alternative options and partnerships for a deal on this issue a high priority! We will keep you informed.
A thread with nearly 50.000 views not ending in a positive outcome. Contrast that with moneys spent on various marketing schemes, trade shows, etc.
I might point out that as near as I can tell, nobody who has commented on this thread, save for Marianna and perhaps a couple of others, has an intimate knowledge of what the negotiations between Avid and Nexidia were like. For all we know Nexidia had adopted a completely untenable position in regards to the licensing of their product. Or it may be that the evolution of MC was going to require significant changes to Nexidia's product that they were unwilling to implement. Point is, we really don't know what the dynamic of these negotiations were. It's unfortunate, but I'm not about to lay the sole responsibility at the feet of Avid.
Agreed. I do think it is now Avid's responsibility to develop an alternative solution. They can do this through a partnership or in-house but without this functionality, Avid will likely lose a segment of their user base.

I only occasionally used PhraseFind, since the lack of support for italian, which used to be rather disappointing, as every time I was dealing with supported languages the tool proved itself to be great, a real lifesaver in documentaries with many long interviews, also useful for features, other than being added value for Avid. The pulling off of such a feature without a valid replacement (who cares if the engine is Nexidia, AVID, or ACME Co. after all?), after having had it icluded in the box for quite some time, without even lowering the software price, given the diminished functionalities, and the never ending opaque statements from Avid, are a depressing show to attend. Eventually at Avid they prefer to pay the outrageously huge salaries of the managers who are sinking the company, and dividends to the vampirizing shareholders, while firing employees and outsourcing the development (with a pretty bad outcome in terms of the quality of MC), rather than investing in the product. Not surprisingly, since the decision makers are the same people after the money.

ah,
so letting us hang in there for a year was price gouging on Nexidia's part?
So if I'm reading this right, it's only available on MediaCentral for now but a possible stand alone solution is coming in December?
This is exciting and (hopefully) a big relief. We've been holding back on upgrading until there was an option for scriptsync/phrasefind. Here's to hoping it comes standalone for MC in December.
Hi, Finally, I get to respond to this with some positive news. This is the complete portfolio of wonderful media and entertainment products that Nexidia makes including Dialog Search, Search Grid and Illuminate. All of these products interact on the Avid MediaCentral Platform as services for enterprise and post production.
AND
It allows Avid to bring back PhraseFind and ScriptSync as options for Media Composer. Stand by for news in December for PhraseFind and ScriptSync information.
Thanks
Dave
