TVJohn: Witness the HDV problem.
Witness the HDV problem.
Not quite the same. The add-ons are a marketing and product management issue. The HDV bug is a development one (which Avid has committed to fixing).

which Avid has committed to fixing...
First I have heard of any such commitment.

First time I'm reporting it.
Let's move back on topic.
My thoughts are: If Nexidia licenses the software plug-in, and Avid resells it as an option for Media Composer (for like $800) and there seems to be no agreement between the two parties moving forward, why doesn't Nexidia sell the software directly as a plug-in for Avid and other editing apps the same as Genarts or Boris? Whether I pay Avid or Nexidia doesn't matter to me as long as it works seemlessly within the Avid application. One thing I will not buy is an outboard app to sync and screen my footage...done it before...not as seemless.
It would be win-win sales for both companies.

Boris has PhraseFind (called Soundbite, powered by Nexidia) as a plug-in. Unfortunately, it only support Premiere and FCP. I'm sure that at the time Boris didn't see a need to support MC and MC already had the feature. If Avid can't come to terms with Nexidia, perhaps they could get Boris to support MC in Soundbite.
Soundbite does not offer the same integration into the editing client, to the best of my knowledge.
That's correct...it's a standalone app which I believe used to be called GET and was purchased by Boris. The workflow is a pain to have to switch back and forth between apps, and it creates new additional bins/makers that then have to be imported into FCP...all the while assuming that these are the bites you may want, when in fact they may not be...very messy with bin organization and newly created sub-clips.
Time to stir the pot again the chili is burning
So Marianna,
Just checking into the progress of PhraseFind for the future... I guess i will never give up....

Any updates post NAB?
It's really feeling like a dead duck issue. Also, having having active support contracts (renewed anually) for systems that can't update to V.8 is really starting to sting.
Hi all,
Marianna responded on FB to my question about MC 7 being qualified for Mac OS beyond 10.9 with the following:
---
I don't believe anything will change regarding OS and MC 7 support. As for SS and PF..... There is nothing new to report according to Dave David Colantuoni. We are not pursuing an agreement with Nexidia since they have sold their company but we ARE STILL evaluating other options and partnerships.
So that's it. You (and I) can stop hoping now.

I know you have been back and forth with keith on this so lets see if we can nail it down since 8.5.3 dint fix it. Are you planning to email him again and keep the pressure on or do you need me to do that?

So Marianna
As far as Phrasefind.
So that's it. I can stop hoping now
If it were me, I'd have to start evaluating the cost of upgrades that I can't use versus the cost of a new license when (if) the equivalent features become available.
