JVC Verite V.S FSi - Help choosing a grading monitor

I'm thinking about buying a monitor for my new editing room. I can't afford an high-end monitor, but I still would like to be able to do some grading for broadcast if needed. So far I've narrowed my choice to 3 monitors, but I'm not sure witch one would be the best.

I'm looking for some feedback if you used any of those. Feel free to suggest any other monitor around 3000$.

    JVC DT-V24G1Z Verite 24"

Apart from the integrated vector scope, is there a real difference in color rendering quality compared with the other JVC?

Can't go in the CM series for now, too expensive. Can this monitor still be use for grading?

I have a similiar JVC monitor for my day job and an older 17" FSI for my home suite. I would choose FSI hands down. In fact, when my day job suites were being upgraded, FSI monitors were being considered but the deal fell through since Flanders won't accept purchase orders.

IMHO colorimetry of FSI is superior to JVC. FSI firmware is regularly updated to bring you new features. Also they will recalibrate your monitor free of charge except for shipping. Their customer support is quick to respond and personal.

    Thank you SamD.

So you think the FSI BM230, even if not in the CM series, is still suitable for grading ?

    Thanks.

Re: JVC Verite V.S FSi - Help choosing a grading monitor

Have you thought about the new HP Dreamcolor monitors announced at NAB?

The new z27x is selling at $1499 and is interesting in that it's resolution is 2560x1440 and its capable of taking 4K sources.

The thing you don't get with these monitors is HD SDI inputs, so you'll need to feed it from a SDI to HDMI (or Displayport) converter, such as those made by AJA or Blackmagic.

I have one of the older generation Dreamcolor monitors which needed quite stringent input requirements for the Dreamcolor engine (the thing that handles the monitor's colourspace) to work. Also, re-calibration was a bit of a problem, but with these new models that's all a thing of the past. My dreamcolor (once properly set up) produced a display which was pretty close to my reference HD tubed monitor and I'm told that the z27x is even better.

You also don't get on-screen scopes, but personally, I always use external scopes as I find on-screen scopes laggy and distracting.

Here's some links to Youtube videos that explain the features.

For a look at how it scales/pans 4K...

and if you can get past the annoying interviewer and the sponsor message in the midde, this video actually shows the calibration procedure.
