    Export 'same as source' problems

    Hello,

I would really appreciate some help.

I am trying to export my timeline throuhg export same as source. when I open the exported file it looks bad and has lines digital across across peoples faces when they speak, i think it looks interlaced. Sorry I am not sure what you call this, when lines appear acorss the video

This issue has happened only since I recently updated the software.

I am using Avid Media Composer Interplay edition 7.0.0 on a Mac OSX 10.8.2

The timonlien is made up of clips that were first Ama linked that were then transcoded to Apple Pro Res

When I export same as spurce a file is made, but it looks really bad.

I have even tried exporting as Apple Pro Res and H.264 and ticked de-interlace source video but thats hasnt solved the probem.

Any ideas or tips are much appreciated

Some more information would be helpful.  What is the frame rate and size of the source material?  What are the project settings?  Are you seeing the lines on the computer monitor or on a video monitor?  Can you post a screen grab of what you're seeing (if you're on a Mac, try Command-Shift-3).

Re: Export 'same as source' problems

    Hello hbrok,

The source material frame rate is: 50i

    The prject setttings are:

    1080i/50

    Raster dimentions: 1920 x1080

Its odd as this probelm has only happened once I upgraded, and I had projects with the same setttings earlier this year on Avid MC 6.5 and exported them same as source with no issues.

I played around some more and when I put a timewarp effect on the clip (and made it export as progressive) the clips look 'normal' once I export them out of Avid. Is there a way to make all the clips looks correct in an easier way raher than add a time warp effect to everything?

Have I set the project up wrong? Could that be it?

    Many many thanks!

Ok with a 50i project you are telling Media composer to make interlaced content.

If you load interlaced sources you will export interlaced outputs.

Normally seeing interlaced artefacts on the export isn't an issue (if you wnat and need an interlaced export)

And if you then need to make progressive files say for the web then just de-interlace in squeeze.

If you actually need and want progressive outputs set MC to a 25P format and it will add motion adapters to interlaced content. Exports should then be fine.

    Hello,

Thanks for the info, I will try setting the project to 25P instead of 50i and hopefully that will fix it!

    cheers!

It won't. If you're seeing interlacing issues now, it means your source footage is interlaced. You can deinterlace it at some point, depending on delivery requirements.

    Hi there,

you are right that didnt work! I must admit I am new to this, how am I able to deinterlace the footage, is there any way to do that throuhg the export option? or must the exported film be put throuhg another program to de-interlace it?

    Many thanks,

Great thanks for all the advice, I got there in the end with timewarp.
