Activating my trial software with the educational version I bought

I'm sure this is documented somewhere, I just haven't found it and i've been looking for an hour. So I really appreciate help with a question that you probably often get.

I have a trial version of Media composer downloaded and running on my machine (pc)

I bought a student version, recieved the activation card, went online and entered the download code. An email was sent to me with a new code.

Where do I put this new code?

My trial version asks for an activation ID that is 4 sets of 4 characters.

    The email I recieved says:

Media Composer 7.0 EDU Student - Verification Code
    Code:EDU-M7EDUSxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxx

Production Suite serial numbers will be populated in your account after you redeem the Download Code provided by Identit-E

There must be a way for me to turn the above code into the xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx code that my trial software is asking for without requiring me to redownload and reinstall the editing software.

Does anyone know what I should do next? Does it have something to do with Identit-E? Does anyone know what Identit-E is?

Any help would be apreciated. I have 10 days until my trial expires.

    Pro Video Academic Redemption Process

    To begin:

Students, Institutions and faculty who purchase a physical box license, will receive an Activation Card with a download code printed on it – which looks something like M7EDUxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxxxxx

Go to https://account.avid.com/activation and login and enter that download code. Doing this will add your Media Composer Academic license download to your Avid.com account at account.avid.com and provide you with further instructions along with the required academic verification code (EDU-xxxxxx…… ) to use at the Identit-e website.

If you purchased the software from our Avid online store, your Media Composer Academic license download will be automatically added to your Avid.com account at account.avid.com.  You will still need to follow the instructions along with the required academic verification code (EDU-xxxxxx……) to use at the Identit-e website.

    Then:

    1.   Download the Media Composer 7.0.x installer – again this can be found in your Avid.com account at account.avid.com under "Product Not Yet Download".

    2.   In your account you will see an academic validation code, which is different than the code on the Activation Card with instructions to go to www.identit-e.com/avid

    3.   Go to www.identit-e.com/avid and enter this code on the page and provide your personal information that is requested.  This will validate your current academic status.

    4.   Once your status is verified, Identit-E will email a new verified activation code to use at account.avid.com. You will need to login to your account, and activate the code provided by selecting the download and activate my product.  select MC and enter code.   This will release the System ID, Activation ID, and all required 3rd party serial numbers for the additional software.  The benefit is that this information will then always live within the My Account.

    5.   If you do NOT receive the email from Identi-e, please check your spam folder before contacting Avid.

    6.  Launch Media Composer 7.0.x and follow the prompts to activate the software using the System ID and Activation ID.

    7.   Note that Academic Licenses contain the Interplay option as an added feature as many schools are moving to Interplay and Avid wants to ensure connectivity.

    8.   Register your software at www.avid.com/register

For MC Academic student licenses, this is mandatory so that you will become eligible for your 4 years of free upgrades*

    * For students who are eligible for free upgrades when new software is released:

    1.   Go to http://www.avid.com/US/support/upgrade-academic-free

    2.   Enter your system ID and Activation ID along with your name and email from your registration

    3.   If all is entered correctly and the license is registered, you will receive access to then upgrade.

Note:  Maintenance updates such as 6.5.3, 7.0.2 etc. are obtained via the Download Center and are not available via the Academic free site. New versions such as 6.0, 6.5, and 7.0 should be obtained on the Academic free site.
