Thanks Rob
That is good news, I wasn't actually testing DMF yet. I was using the transcode in background AMA function from within MC7 I assume the plugin is still the problem
Cheers

^^ A good edit takes time but who has the time? When I look back I see my mistakes!
Rob D'Amico: Hi All - I hope I can shed some light here and if I don't answer your question, I will try again! If you are testing with any Sony footage (XDCAM, XAVC, RAW, XDCAM EX, HDCAM SR), those AMA plug-ins are not updated yet (by Sony) to support Dynamic Media Folders in Media Composer 7. Sony mentioned to me they are close to releasing there new versions of their plug-ins to support Media Composer 7. Dynamic Media Folders is a service that can run on local or shared storage (ISIS or 3rd party) and can also be sub-foldered. I would suggest testing your workflow with some RED, Panasonic or DNxHD footage to see if there is something else that is causing this not to work for you. Thanks for looking to stay with Avid and Media Composer 7! Best, Rob

Thanks for the feedback, Rob. Services don't have access to network resources by default so how would you suggest we proceed? Should we run each service under a domain or workgroup account? Which services require special credentials? Just the DMF service? I'll try what you suggested and use a format other than QT or H.264 mp4 but I was really hoping those would work. They certainly do with local DMF folders.
Thanks again for your feedback - very impressive customer service.
Steve

Of course, once you provide the DMF Windows service with adequate credentials to access a network drive, one workaround that I have found works quite well is to setup a DMF job that simply copies files from the network drive to the local drive and then have a separate job watching the local folder and performing the transcoding or consolidating operation. For me, this is an excellent workaround (and may even be preferable since I suspect trancoding large files over the network may actually be much slower than copying first and transcoding locally).
Cheers!

Thanks Marianna - no rush. I was bumping this for other community members to try as it appears to me to be a valid workflow. I'd love to get Rob's take on this, though.
I appologize for my tardy response, but I had to do a little digging and follow up with the designer and development team. It appears that there will need to be a bit of work to support the DMF directly on the Windows Server, but the workaround as someone mentioned would be to setup the DMF locally and then have it an action in the DMF profile to perform a copy to the directory on the Windows Server system.
