Fast Forward/Rewind behaviour needs to be made more predictable

I find this action very unreliable - the playhead doesn't jump from cut to cut very smoothly, often skipping to unpredicatable places on the timeline.  This should be the default means of navigating edits in Media Composer, rather than automatically entering into trim mode.

Remap the A and S keys to rewind and fast forward respectively.  That will do exactly what you need.

Re: Fast Forward/Rewind behaviour needs to be made more predictable

Thanks for the suggestion.  I've already remapped the commands to my keyboard.  That's not the problem.  It's the unpredicatbility of the way the fast forward and rewind commands navigate the edits in the timeline.  The playhead marker inexplicably jumps over edits (even when all tracks are selected).  It doesn't seem to respect the cuts very well.

??For me FF and REW jump to the next cut of the Track (singular) selected. Or the next cut that is at the same point in the timeline for all selected tracks. This has never missed in all the years I have used it.

I am reasonably sure there are modifier keys that allow you jump to the next cut in the timeline on any of the selected tracks but I do not work that way with FF and REW.

Hmmm... all I know is that this action has never worked smoothly for me.  I'm not sure what's causing this behaviour.  Good to know it works perfectly for you.

Check Composer Settings > FF/RW tab.

You can make these buttons do whatever you like.

FWIW Failures here happen if I have a rogue track selected. And occassionally if the TC track is selected. Both of which I can identify quickly the first time it does not go where I expect it to go.

If you have all tracks selected it will only stop where there is a cut on all tracks at the same point.

If you just have V1 selected it will stop at all cut points on V1.

If you hold ALT while fastforwarding it will ignore track selection and stop at all cut points on all tracks.

Yes!!!  THANK YOU!  I asked on other forums before and I never got a proper answer.  This has been bothering me for months!  I just accepted it as a problem with the program.  Awesome!  I guess I can remove this as a feature request.
