I'm an online editor who has always worked in a facility that employs staff colorists. My red-green coloblindness has never been a problem. But I've been recommended for a great position as an online editor at a new facitiy, in which I will need to color correct for reality TV. I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughs on the subject. I'm at a point in my career where if I need to switch gears (like to offline editing) I need to do it soon.
Thanks,
Dan
I too have a red-green deficiency and I avoid "important" color correcting (ie, for Online) whenever possible. I'm never confident enough in my ability to perceive the subtleties of the hues in skintones. I have recently heard that you might be able to get "corrective" contact lenses that might be able to help with some cases of color blindness - although, I have to remind people that a red-green deficiency is not the same as being color blind. You may want to talk to an optometrist about it.
Good luck and let us know what you find out.
