Is there a best level to have your 24 bit audio when converting to 16bit

Does anyone know if it's necessary to limit the peaks of a 24 bit audio file before converting to 16bit. I know the dynamic range is reduced, I just want to make sure nothing is clipped.

The only difference between 24bit 20 bit and 16 bit is quantisation resolution. Levels or dynamic range aren't altered.

The lower bits that produce the finer qunatisation levels are just ignored and unless you aquired or produced the sounds in 24bit audio that detail isn't there anyway most likely!

Great, thanks. It was recorded and mixed at 24bit. Just wanted to make sure I don't make a foolish mistake after going to that trouble.

    Cheers,
