Avid FX can do this (this is the 0nly tool normally included with Avid Media Composer or Symphony).

Avid DS can do this in the timeline.

    After Effects can do it.

    Just a couple of ideas.

Use the Pan & Zoom effect with an image or clip that's higher res than your sequence.

I want to do this with a time lapse tif sequenze, so I can't use a single tif or video clip.

    Ivo,

Have you tried Avid FX?  I do not know if it will work, but you most likely have that piece of software since it has been included with MC for several versions.

It may not work, but it is worth a try.  After that, I would have to say After Effects or Avid DS.  Both would do the job.  Both have 30 day free trails.  Both have learning curves.  AE might be a bit simpler and maybe less picky about system requirements.

    Good luck,

I am just wondering if doing a video mixdown, and applying the effect to that might resolve this issue???

Not in this case.  Jef's suggestion of Avid FX is the only way I know of within Media Composer that might allow pan & zoom on a clip that is larger than the format's frame size.

Otherwise, as he says, it's an After Effects or DS job.

Re: How can I Zoom in a Tif Sequenze?

This might not work with your workflow, but you can make a quicktime out of your tif sequence (native dimensions, something like 4k) and then Pan & Scan that clip within your sequence.

That's the easiest way I've been able to integrate time lapse footage shot with a DSLR into our projects.  Import image sequences into After Effects.  Render out 4k quicktimes.  Pan & Scan those quicktimes in Media Composer.

Nope.  As mentioned before, Avid MC / Symphony locks the the frame size at the time you choose your project.

So 1920x1080 is ONLY that.  Everything is scaled to those dimensions and and resizing is of media at that size.

FCP is capable of integrating differrent size materials into a timeline BUT - and this is critical - it does so WITHOUT subpixel sampling.  So they quality of the resizing is less than optimal (being polite here).

Premiere can do this job, it does have subpixel sampling (although you only have one choice of filtering methods).

AfterEffects can do the job - same situation as Premiere (no surprise there).

DS can do the job.  Choice 4 different filters.

Smoke on Mac can do the job.  Mulitple filters (not sure of the number).

There may be others, I do not know.

Re: How can I Zoom in a Tif Sequenze?

Thanks for clarifying that.  I guess I should have said, I'm hoping that's the way I'll be able to integrate large format media into MC...

Depending on your needs you could pan & scan one tif from your tif sequence into your MC sequence and dial in the move there.  Once the edit's locked in MC, render out a quicktime of your tif moving and match it with the time lapse sequence in AE.  Render that out from AE to match your MC comp settings and replace the single tif with the rendered time lapse.

That's assuming you're editing it into a larger sequence with other media that's already in MC.  If it's just the one tif sequence you need, I'd do the whole thing in AE.

Re: How can I Zoom in a Tif Sequenze?

I was trying to do this in FX. However, the only input movie file I could import was .avi or .mpg!

Tell me that FX can use a .mov file for input!

Otherwise, how do I pan and scan and keep full res??

    Thanks for your help.

I can not. I can tell you Avid FX in MC6 (64bit) does NOT handle Quicktimes to the best of my knowledge.. If I had to I would be trying with an AVI.

Re: How can I Zoom in a Tif Sequenze?

Avid FX is able to directly image sequences. Use the "Add Movie Media" and select a sequence. I tried it and Tiff graphics and it worked, but was created for HD resolution. When you try with a sequence of jpg images (2656x1768) is blank, even though it looks that material is loaded into the track ....
