Hey guys - just in a hurry to get a project to grade facility, trying to avoid the EDL thing this time around so hoping to export from Avid as AAF. However I'm in MC5.5.3 which annoyingly can't deal with AAF linking to external files when the sequence points to QuickTime's via AMA.
Can MC6 do this? I have a MC6 license but rolled back due to those cursed MXO2 problems, I don't want to go through the hassle of uninstalling, reinstalling, uninstalling, reinstalling etc just to find out MC6 still can't do AAF with AMA.
If anyone has MC6 installed and can tell me if AAF output linked to AMA files is possible it would be much appreciated :)
I don't think it can.
QT ref or any output that points to the AMA sources is blocked by Avid with a warning message.
The only answer is to transcode/consolidate and make new media.
What are they using at the grade facility? many grading systems have the ability to redirect the file linking so you export linked to your internal media and they then point to the correct source files.
Would be nice for Avid to AMA linked to external AMA sources and just warn you that the AMA plugins won;t be available on other systems.

Another method is to dupe your sequence
Then hold ctrl shift and right click on your duped sequence
then select from the menu "unlink"
Then make an AAF of that seq which will give a aaf with no media
Grading suite should be able to relink to the original ama footage
^^ A good edit takes time but who has the time? When I look back I see my mistakes!
