C300 and AMA - No Linking?

    Hey all,

Testing the workflow for a Canon EOS C300 before it goes out on a big shoot - cannot get it to link AMA Volume or Files. Just get an error message "Cannot Link Volume in Users/etc./etc."

    Running 10.7.2 and MC6.

Here are the plug-ins I have installed...

    Avid MXF AMA plug-in (download)

    Canon XF-305 for 64-bit:

    http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Consumer_Products/products/camcorders/Digital/HDV_series/XF305.aspx?DLtcmuri=tcm:14-901687&page=1&type=download

    etc.,

    https://www.servicesplus.sel.sony.com/SoftwareFreeDownload.aspx

I also have referred to this thread, but have seen where others have been able to get C300 footage to work?

    http://community.avid.com/forums/t/102649.aspx?PageIndex=3

    Any ideas? Thanks!

Canon hasn't released the AMA plugins for XFCam yet.  If you want to link you'll need to work in 5.5.3.

Re: C300 and AMA - No Linking?

Thanks - was on the phone with a Canon rep who didn't seem to know too much in detail, but said they were released today...

Is it an Avid plug-in for MC6 issue or Canon? I thought the XF-300 and XF-305 plugins were supposed to work with C300...

Re: C300 and AMA - No Linking?

C300, XF300(5) and XF100(5) all use the same codec for internal recording.  When the codecs are released something will likely be posted on the forums.  In the meantime, go here, it's where all of the AMA plugin links are kept:

    ****FIX****

    Hey all,

So, after spending a while on the phone, it turns out that the C300 (as I knew, and forgot), is by default set to record in their "true" 24.00P, which AVID and FCP can't work with. Once I set it to 23.98p all was once again right with the world.

    Thanks for all your help!

Avid does support true 24 fps since the days of Film Composer.

Re: C300 and AMA - No Linking?

Yes, Avid indeed supports 24p, but the Canon XF AMA plugin does not at this point.

But that is clearly stated in the first two lines or so at the download page.

Yes lets not forget that it's the camera makers who need to provide the AMA functionality via the AMA plugin. Avid have made the gateway they just need to make the plugin. And some do a good job and others less so.

Right, but when many users are getting their plug-ins from either the Avid's "Canon XF AMA Plug-in Guide" (http://avid.force.com/pkb/LegacySearch?DocId=367181&Hilite=plug-in) and the true 24.00p is not mentioned there, and when many users are also told to just keep checking the AMA plug-ins page, and it's not listed there....(http://www.avid.com/US/products/Avid-Media-Access/Plug-ins), It's definitely confusing.

Definitely on Canon's part to fix this, though, or at least tell their support reps that the plug-in supporting true 24.00p isn't actually out.

Oh, I agree with you on that completly!

There should only be one download site with all the important information.

I, especially get confused when I need to download the plug-ins from the Sony site, which is a real mess!

I disagree. I want Avid folks working on doing the things only they can do.

I'm more than capable of finding the downloads I need.

If Avid have to collect all the pluggins, 3rd party drivers and all the rest and keep them all up to date as they eveolve and change that's a massive job.

Re: C300 and AMA - No Linking?

I too want them to work on the things they are good at. However, as it requires these plugins to make AVID work with these file formats I would expect AVID to put in an effort that makes it not necessary for every user to do his/her own individual search to find the right plugins. And lets be honest, there are not that much that it would require AVID a tremendous effort, also because they already have knowledge on new plugins when they arrive. In my opinion this falls under the customer service that can make or break your products; but having said that I don't think AVID is doing too bad with having the links to the proper sites to download most of the plugins on her own site.
