Does anyone know if there's a way to display the contents or text contained within a locator in the timeline? It would seem like a pretty easy and essential tool, but I can't find where to turn this on if it is possible.
Anyone?
If you go into the fast "hamburger" menu of the timeline and choose "clip text", the various options are there. The closest to what you want is to display comments, but not locator text.

I would think you'd have trouble getting a lot of info displayed there effectively. Often with long clip names and any of the other text display options turned on, I have to zoom all the way in to the frame level to see what info is on a particular clip.
Have you tried opening the Locators tool and viewing your locator comments there?

Larry - Yeah I saw that, but it still doesn't display the locator info. :(
Kenton - Normally I'd agree with you, but I'm tagging and adding notes to a long interview where there aren't a lot of separate clips. Being able to display the locator comments would really help me in this particular instance. It seems like a pretty elementary feature too... weird that its not here. Vegas and Adobe have this... Seems like AVID should too.
You don't need them to be separate clips. Just add your Locators and comments wherever you need them, then open the Locators window (under Tools menu) and you'll see all of your locators and your comments in a nice organized list. You can even double-click on one and it'll jump to that point. I use it all the time.
Kenton - I use the locators the same way... in the Locator's Window. But thats not the funtionality I was asking about. I was wanting the locators text to be displayed in the timeline, not in the locators window. See this screenshot (cropped down) from a Sony "Vegas" timeline.
Does AVID Media Composure do this? If not it should add this functionality. Additionally working with locators is frustrating. You can't move, edit or delete a locator from the timeline. Only partial editing from the locator's window (but you can't move it or change its timecode there still).

Suggest you create a thread on this in the Feature Requests Forum.
I see what you're saying but if you have a 30 min clip or sequence, you're going to have to zoom in quite a bit to read those locators and make sense of them. And then you won't be able to see all of them at once to know what comes next or what came before. Using the Locator window I find is easier for visually finding the logged shots and jumping to them with a double-click.
Larry - I will. :) Thanks for the tip
Kenton - I think its one of those things where I want both tools. Both the Locator Window and seeing them in the timeline. I have one of those tools available and use it... now I want the other. You can turn a bolt with a socket wrench or an ajustable wrench. There's times when one makes no sense, and the other is a must. I'm merely saying I wish I had the other tool available to me as its days like today that the Locator Window tool simply isn't cutting it.
I'll be adding a thread in the new feature request about this. :)
FWIW in segment mode you can select any clip in the timeline and add comments which you can have displayed on the clip. You can also add your comment in the source window. or whilst logging. So with add edits you could use comments as a workaround
