Yes it is Denny. MC 6 is a full version installer, so uninstall MC 5.5 first. If you're running a software license, don't forget to deactivate it first!

Uninstalling the old version is recommended Denny.
In agreement, Unity. In Disagreement, Discussion. In all things, Charity.
Does this mean uninstalling the production suite that came with MC ?
and, can I leave Avid Studio on my OS - I think I read on the forum that Marrianna said ther is no need to uninstall Studio as MC6 is 64 bit
Thanks - Ed
Custom built - Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - Asus P5W Deluxe mboard - Radeon X1950XTX Graphics - Kingston 2GB Ram - Audigy 2ZS Sound - 3 x WD 500 GB Sata drives - Windows XP Pro
The new third party Apps are 64 bit so yes, uninstall the old ones.

Ed, I saw "something" in the early beta stages, the Pinnacle pixie folder, however not used by Media Composer any longer, was deleted when installing Media Composer, as I had a dup of it in another folder, just to be safe, I replaced it, and, after that, they all live happy together...
Maybe you should do that safe copy just in case .....
Tomas
Thanks BLKDOG - Could you advise if I can leave Avid Studio on my system ?
Ed
Just want to be clear were should I go to download if I am eligible for the free download? They want to charge me $299 or do I need to go through the complete process?
Hi mjoinarn - could you please advise what you mean by "safe copy" ie what do I have to do ?
Ed, no reason they shouldn't exist together on the same CPU but we don't test them together so I really have no idea what will happen.
As was mentioned, rename the Pinnacle Pixie folder prior to installing just to be safe.

If you fall within the 10/15-11/15 free upgrade window, you will go to avid.com/protect to get youir upgrade code. Now, I just went there and it looks as if the site is not ready to go but be patient, it shouldn't be too much longer.

Hi Ed, just do a copy to another place or rename as Todd ( blkdog ) said
You might need to have " show hidden folders " enabled to see the folder, not sure, I always have that option enabled.

BLKDOG/Mjoinarn - thank you both for the quick response - this Forum takes some beating - the help received is very much appreciated.
Helena Trix: Marianna: DieselAddict: And making the attempts to download repeatly fail. :( I am hearing of folks that want to try MC downloading from the DL as well as those that are eligible for the free uprgade. They shouldnt be downloding from there but..... they are :( That's because its VERY unprofessional to announce an upgrade on a date and dont MEET your own announcement for all customers. You CAN NOT come up with an excuse like ''yeah yeah we are updating the site for academic, but uhhh yeah i dont know how long it will take, i will post it on the forum when its there''.you CAN NOT DO THIS, it looks so unbelievably unprofessional. The site should have been updated and ready for launch BEFORE 15th november. I cant believe this, how hard can it be. Also the whole fact that we got to ''look for a thread on a forum'' if we can download our V6 academic version. This kind of things you ANNOUNCE ON THE MAIN TOPSITE OF AVID.COM. YOU HAVE TO BE CLEAR ABOUT THIS KIND OF STUFF.

You are spot on! I can't believe this has happened yet again. We even took special measures to make sure it didnt and the moderators tested it out and all was fine. Somehow between Monday and Tuesdays upload with the Sorenson fix, the DL took a hit.
I have escalated this up the ladder. I apologize and I am embarrassed this happened.
All I can do now is push for a fix and then ensure we have an "iron clad plan" to make sure it doesnt happen again.

Patience is a virtue. I'm happy that I got the best video editing software on the planet. I can get my work done efficiently with version 5.5, though I'd like to have version 6. Certainly won't go ranting on WHERE IS IT? Blah, blah, blah. S$$T happens, that's life. I'm on my 5th attempt of downloading this 3.3gb monster, and the 1st try it went 1.7gb, then bombed after 20 hours. Now, I'm staring at at 736kb transfer rate and 1 hour remaining to go.
Happy camper on this side. GO AVID!!!
