What is the cheapest way to upgrade to MC 6 if you are running MC5.5.3?
Is it to buy an upgrade again for $149 now or to pay $299

Afridi

$299 is a pretty fair price to go 64bit and get Avid FX, Squeeze and Avid DVD. The $149 seems to me a loophole that Avid will honour, Good for those who fit the criteria. Hopefully the spirit of the offer wont be abused.

It is not fair to charge MC 5.5.3 users $299 who paid $499 to upgrade from MC 5.0 not too long ago and charge only $149 for 5.0 users. It does not make sense to me.
My memory could well be completely faulty but I think the download upgrade price for 5 to 5.5 was always $149.
IF that is the case, or even if $149 was a recent price reduction, the consistency is that Avid often offers free upgrades to people who brough their product, or upgrade, within "X" days of the new products release date.
The download charge for MC 5 to MC 5.5 was $299 and if you wanted the third party media included it was $499.
Yeah, I agree, seems strange that if you havent upgraded to 5.5, you get a benefit over existing 5.5 customers.

I upgraded a dozen systems from 5.0 to 5.5 in September (kinda wishing I had waited, but it's not like I knew this was coming)
The price was $149 per system, not including the 3rd party content (squeeze, BCC7 etc)

Well there are 2 options....
1. Upgrade your MC 5.5.x to MC 6 when it is available at 11/15 and pay $299 for a software downlaod on the Avid Store. With that comes Avid DVD, Avid FX and Sorenson.
2. Upgrade your MC 5.5.x to MC 6 when it is available at 11/15 and pay $499 for the boxed set thru your reseller or avid direct which comes with Avid DVD, Avid FX and Sorenson.
Since you already own MC 5.5.3 then you dont need to upgrade to MC 5.5.

Is there any point to upgrade 5.0 to 5.5 box version over the download? maybe not, since Boris 8 won't be within the free 6.0 version. Am I correct on this? Thanks for any advices.
I'm a big Sorenson Squeeze user and is the 15th download including Sorenson Squeeze 7? or is it still 6?
also, they just announced squeeze 8... is that what the download has instead.... questions, questions, questions...
thanks in advance

How about 5.0 to 5.5 upgrading advantages box version over download?
Thanks.

If you're upgrading to 5.5 just to qualifiy for the free upgrade to 6, then I can't see a reason to go for the box. When 6 comes, all the stuff that comes with it (Avid DVD, Avid FX, and Sorensen Squeeze) will come in the download and will all be 64-bit. (Any of the older versions that you would've gotten with 5.0 or 5.5 will be 32-bit.)
