Last night, I was conforming a 45 minute long show. During the conform process, I do a lot of saving, Avid does a lot of saving, there are lots of things to save. New clips, new sequences, AMA bins etc etc.
I would estimate that i probably wasted over an hour, yes, an HOUR, waiting for saves of bins with large sequences in or bins with many AMA clips in.
It is high time that we had an ongoing background save. I cannot be hard to do, considering the computing power we have at our disposal nowadays. Last night I was on a 36 core Z840 with 64GB RAM and I felt like I was on a zx spectrum. Surely this is on a roadmap of some sort?
My feature request is permanent ongoing background save that will restore my project exactly as I left it when I have a crash and that will allow me to keep working without having to sit and stare at a progress bar for 2 minutes at a time. No more hunting for clips in the media tool, no more hoping that your changes got saved to the attic, it just gets saved as you do it.
Andi
and just another STRONG ENDORSEMENT for background saving! I can only hope this hasn't happened yet because it's been just technically impossible. But if it's just not important enough to be a priority, PLEASE raise the importance of this feature to top priority!
